About Poster Index

An independent visual research tool for graphic designers, art directors, students and poster makers.

Poster Index is an independent visual research tool for graphic designers. It organizes award-winning and institutionally selected poster work into a searchable study archive.

The product goal is to make high-level graphic design easier to browse, compare, save and learn from — without turning the experience into a jargon-heavy database. Records carry only what their sources state; anything unverified stays visibly empty rather than being filled in.

The interface combines Pinterest-like discovery with source-backed design research, study prompts, award context and comparison tools. Scrolling is effortless; the research layer is one click away on every Study page.

Built around

Visual discovery
A randomized, session-stable masonry feed that stays image-first and never shows an empty frame.
Award-backed sourcing
Every record is tied to a juried competition or institutional selection with a citable URL.
Designer-oriented study prompts
Hook, hierarchy, energy and transfer — the questions a designer actually asks of a poster.
Event + culture curation
Concert, festival, film, theatre and exhibition graphics grouped from source-backed tags.
Compare
Place up to four works side by side to read composition and typographic decisions against each other.
Saved collections
Keep references locally, grouped into named collections, without an account.
Source provenance
Provenance status, image origin and credits are recorded per record; unverified fields stay empty.
Responsive browsing
The same archive reads well from a 390px phone to a wide desktop grid.

Two layers, one research system

Publication layer

A rights-conscious research presentation

The publication layer presents the full verified index — designer, title, award, edition, year, country, classification and the original publication link — while artwork display follows a per-record rights review. Where a poster is not shown, the record remains fully searchable and the official source is one click away.

Research layer

The sourcing and study workflow

The research layer preserves the complete sourcing, comparison, classification and study workflow used to maintain the project: how records are verified, how works are read against each other, and how each written study is built.

Separating those layers allows rigorous internal research while keeping the public surface deliberately conservative. Both layers follow the same dataset, the same sourcing rules and the same design system — only what is presented differs.

Rights

Poster artwork remains the property of its respective designers, studios, clients and rights holders. POSTER INDEX is an independent research and reference project and does not claim ownership of featured artwork.

Each record links back to the official source page it was recorded from, and image credits are shown wherever the source publishes them.
